Much of the work focused on making the building more accessible. The works included the installation of a new platform lift that serves all three floors and ramped access to the front door. During these renovations, the external retaining wall, which is over 100 years old, required underpinning.

The project’s brief for the main building included creating a multifunctional space on the ground floor that could be rented for various events. Structural alterations were necessary to achieve this, such as widening the existing main entrance. Temporary supports were put in place to hold 16 tonnes of weight from above while this work was being completed.

Additionally, the building services were upgraded throughout the work area, which included installing a new fire alarm and lighting system.
